Part 54 - How to Draft a Gathered Top

In this video, Izzy demonstrates how to create a gathered top using a bespoke bodice block. The tutorial focuses on adapting the darts to create gathered volume under the bust.

The video shows how to create a waist panel by drawing a line 4cm parallel to the waistband and cutting along that line. Izzy then demonstrates how to remove the dart volume from the waist panel and close up the darts.

Next, Izzy shows how to transfer the bust dart volume to the waist area by closing the bust dart and widening the waist dart. This creates the necessary volume for gathering.

The tutorial progresses with instructions on creating the pattern pieces. Izzy guides viewers through adding seam allowances to the shoulder, armhole, side seam, and waist. She emphasises the importance of marking the gathering notches and annotating the pattern pieces with grain lines and pattern names.

Izzy then demonstrates how to create the waist panel pattern piece, adding seam allowances to the top and sides, and marking the notch that corresponds to the gathering notch on the bodice top.

The tutorial progresses with instructions on sewing the gathered top. Izzy guides viewers through gathering the front bodice, attaching the waist panel, sewing the back darts, and attaching the side and shoulder seams.

Izzy concludes by showcasing the finished gathered top, highlighting the gathered volume under the bust.
