Part 62 - How to Draft a Shawl Collar

In this video, Izzy demonstrates how to create a shawl collar, a wide and dramatic collar, using a standard bodice block.

The tutorial starts by creating a button stand and shaping the neckline. Izzy then marks button positions and extends the shoulder line. She demonstrates how to shape the collar by overlapping the back bodice with the front and defining the roll line. Izzy also shows how to shape the collar to curve and sit nicely on the shoulders.

The video progresses with instructions on creating the facing, which is slightly smaller than the outer collar. Izzy then guides viewers through creating pattern pieces for the back collar, front bodice, front facing, back under collar, and back bodice, including adding seam allowances and annotations.

The tutorial progresses with instructions on sewing the darts, attaching the shoulder seams, sewing the facing pieces, attaching the under collar to the bodice, attaching the facing to the bodice, and sewing the side seams. Izzy guides viewers through each step, including trimming and clipping the seams.

Izzy concludes by showcasing the finished shawl collar top, highlighting its dramatic effect and the unique shaping techniques used. She encourages viewers to experiment with different collar designs and apply the techniques to various openings.
