Part 44 - How to Draft a Neckline Bodice Dart

In this video, Izzy demonstrates how to rotate a bust dart to the neckline of a bodice block. This tutorial is part of a series exploring the aesthetic impact of dart manipulation techniques.

Izzy starts by explaining the purpose of the series and the tools required, including a bodice block, tracing paper, and a pencil. She emphasises the importance of tracing the block before making any alterations.

The video then shows how to draw a line from the Apex to the desired point on the neckline, which will be the new dart location. The existing bust dart is closed, and the neckline dart is opened, transferring the volume. Izzy explains that this process maintains the same bust volume while changing the dart's position.

Next, Izzy demonstrates how to find the center of the new dart and offset the point by 2cm from the Apex for a smoother curve. She then guides viewers through creating the pattern piece, including adding seam allowances to the shoulder and side seams, and annotating the pattern piece with grain lines, Apex markings, and pattern name.

The tutorial progresses with instructions on sewing the darts and assembling the front and back bodice pieces. Izzy guides viewers through each step, including pressing the darts and seams. She also encourages viewers to refer to a previous video for more detailed guidance on sewing darts.

Izzy concludes by showcasing the finished garment with the neckline dart, highlighting the different aesthetic it creates.
