Part 72 - Sleeve block alterations - Sleeve head too short
In this video, Izzy addresses the issue of a sleeve head being too short and how to correct it. When a sleeve head is too short, you'll observe diagonal tension lines stretching from the sleeve head down towards the bottom, forming a V-shape. Additionally, you'll likely see two small ease tucks at the top of the sleeve head, and the upper arm area will feel tight. To remedy this, you need to increase the height of the sleeve head.
Begin by drawing a line across the sleeve pattern above the back balance point, ensuring it aligns with the centre line. Next, cut along this drawn line. Separate the pattern pieces by the desired amount, using two centimetres as an example. Then, redraw the sleeve head curve to smoothly connect the adjusted pieces. It's important to note that the notch placements on the sleeve will remain unchanged.
This adjustment effectively adds volume to the top of the sleeve, enabling it to sit comfortably over the shoulder. The specific amount of increase required will vary depending on individual fit. Maintaining a smooth curve for the sleeve head is crucial, and the notches on the sleeve will not need to be repositioned.
